THE SCHOOL TAKES OVER THE WORCESTERSHIRE MUSIC LIBRARY
When the Worcestershire County Library moved to the Hive in July, it left the music section (housed in the Museum basement) behind. Following over a year of negotiations, the Elgar School of Music has taken over its management. We are doing so for an initial trial period of six months - the library has to be able to pay for itself as there is no subsidy available whatsoever.

This may prove to be quite an undertaking but we believe it to be wholly appropriate that we intervene to save the collection if we can. Here are some "who what where's".

WHAT:
Orchestral music, chamber music, vocal scores, part-song sheets, band-music for hire by musical groups or individuals. Borrower should be member of their library. Requests can still be made via the County Library website or to library@elgarschoolofmusic.co.uk

WHERE:
Ground floor, Worcester Museum and Art Gallery, Foregate St

WHO:
Gill Lumsdon and Peter Sheeran will run the library with the help of volunteers

WHEN:
The library is open most afternoons betwee 2 and 4 - but please call 01905 28613 to confirm

CHARGES
Scores are £1 each. Borrowers may pick up the music from the museum by appointment or it will be sent to them (and retrieved from them) by TNT, for a fee - £15 up to 11 kilos and £25 thereafter..

WHY:
The school has historical  links with the library and used to host fund-raising events for it using our own students. The music will be available to our own groups, choirs and students at reduced cost, and when one considers our own library, and that of the ESO which is based at the school, we could have a significant resource at our fingertips. We hope to eventually grow the library, especially its representation of English composers
